Description

Sworn officers and troopers who graduated from an academy in 2021 or earlier will be required to take 24 hours of advanced training in 2022, and the state will pay the agency up to 50% of those officers’ salaries while they take the training.

 

The courses included in this catalog are those that will fulfill the 2022 requirements for 24 hours of CPT within the broad categories approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC). For each course, 1 credit equals 1 hour toward CPT requirements. 

 

Cultural Humility: Diversity, Inclusion, Equity is a mandatory core topic for peace officers and troopers. The 4 hours that must be completed within this core topic can be done by selecting any of the modules provided in that category. The remaining 20 hours of instruction can be fulfilled with courses within five of the six following topics:

  • Responding to Mental Health
  • Use of Force
  • Legal Updates
  • Officer Personal Wellness
  • Responding to Sexual Assaults
  • Domestic Violence

For each course, 1 credit equals 1 hour toward CPT requirements. There are 7 hours available to choose from to reach the 4 hours needed in this topic: There is the 1-hour Vicarious Trauma course, then a choice between one of the two remaining 3-hour courses.
